Utility Trenching Monitoring

Sacramento, California

Foothill Associates’ certified arborists provided written recommendations for approaching the trench excavation in the City of Sacramento along the parking lane on N Street to minimize damage to three heritage California sycamore trees. The largest of these measures 57″ diameter at breast height. As part of this effort, Foothill Associates assessed the current condition of the trees to document any existing structural weakness or disease that could eventually contribute to tree decline independent of the excavation activity. This process included an examination of the trees to measure the trees’ size, provide photo documentation of the trees and their relationship to the surrounding landscape, and inspect for obvious signs of failing health such as rot or wounds. Foothill Associates’ certified arborists were present during the active trenching for the duration of the excavation to verify that the recommended procedures were followed and that the appropriate prescriptive recommendations were applied to the specific situation encountered at each tree.
