Robinson Rancheria Pomo Heritage Village and Museum Master Plan

Nice, California

As part of the design team for the Robinson Rancheria Pomo Heritage Village and Museum Master Plan and Conceptual Design, Foothill Associates developed a conceptual landscape plan for the Pomo Heritage Village and Museum located in Lake County, California.  Sustainable design concepts were integrated into many aspects of the landscape from selection of materials to locating buildings and other amenities to take advantage of the existing site conditions. The landscape around the museum will be used both as an outdoor classroom and for traditional rituals and gatherings. The outdoor gardens included a boat-building area highlighting traditional tule boats, a fishing pond, and native plants that are used by the Pomo people. This offers a dual opportunity to create outdoor educational opportunities for visitors and simultaneously provide materials for traditional crafts. Rain water retention and detention and treatment of runoff from parking areas and buildings were an important aspect of the design and are integrated throughout the landscape. As part of the design process, we assisted with community meeting facilitation to gather input on the landscape of the museum.
