North Natomas Detention Basins Adaptive Management Plans

Sacramento, California

Foothill Associates developed Adaptive Management Plans (AMPs) for eight City of Sacramento stormwater detention basins and the associated database and application interface needed to manage the monitoring and maintenance of the conjunctive use basins.  The database effort included a workshop with Utilities staff to identify information and reporting requirements.  Training sessions were provided for Utilities staff on Basin Database use and maintenance and also field monitoring techniques.  The project also included conducting field surveys of the eight conjunctive use detention facilities to assess existing conditions, including vegetation species and cover, habitat potential, wildlife, and general observations about weed abatement and nuisance control. Basin management and performance objectives were developed for each separate facility addressing water quality, water levels, vegetation, habitat, recreation, and maintenance. Success criteria were also established for various plantings addressing acceptable levels of survival and cover by species.
