Design

Our staff specializes in the planning and design of streetscapes, parks and recreation facilities, trails, open spaces, public spaces, habitat restoration, and creative services. Our experience includes a broad scale of large and small projects for both public and private clients. We provide the full range of project cycle services from initial concept through cost estimating, construction drawings and specifications, bid coordination, and construction oversight. We focus on designs that balance regulatory compliance, effective resource protection, and cost-containment.  We are adept at facilitating pubic meetings, conducting public outreach, and providing construction administration and review services with multiple agencies and clients.

Streetscapes

Foothill Associates has prepared streetscape designs and construction documents for communities defining circulation and incorporating principles of complete streets. Attempts are always made to provide comprehensive multi-modal access (bicyclists, pedestrians, transit), connections to existing trail systems and green belts, corridor beautification, and allowing for easy and safe vehicular passage. Our familiarity with Caltrans regulations allows us to streamline the design review process by ensuring our designs meet their requirements when necessary.

Park and Recreation Facilities

Foothill Associates has assisted many public agencies in developing master plans and implementing park and recreation facility projects, so we understand both long-range and broad-scale planning as well as detailed site design and construction documents. We have been involved in a range of projects from active to passive recreation facilities, in rural and urban landscapes. We approach park facilities as unique resources – special places for community residents to gather, play, and experience the world around them.

Day Use Areas

Foothill Associates is uniquely well suited for the design of day use areas where the focus is on enhancing public use while preserving and restoring the natural habitat. Our unique expertise extends beyond landscape architecture and includes biological resources studies, impact assessments, and regulatory compliance, critical in the design of projects in sensitive resource areas to minimize environmental impacts and reduce permitting costs and timelines.

Public Spaces

Foothill Associates has prepared conceptual plans and construction documents for public spaces taking into consideration the community character and spirit of these places. Existing architecture, history, and community heritage become part of our design language. Great care is taken to integrate both the needs of the stakeholders and residents. We design spaces for people to enjoy and while sensitively protecting the fragile environment of which these public spaces are a part.

Restoration

At Foothill Associates, we combine our landscape architecture design with our biological, water resources, and regulatory knowledge and GIS technology to develop wetland, stream corridor, and habitat restoration and creation plans that meet client needs and agency requirements and ensure a high level of restoration success. Foothill Associates’ restoration plans are based on a site-specific feasibility analysis that provides a detailed understanding of existing soils, hydrology, and vegetation characteristics. We provide practical monitoring programs designed to successfully restore and create self-sustaining habitats.
